Types of Casino Games by Skill Level/Loop
Not everything is a matter of luck in the world of gambling and casino games.
Most online casinos and all over the world have games that are mainly based on one’s skills, while in others the odds of winning depend almost exclusively on chance, or “luck” if you prefer to call it that.
Knowing this, we can divide casino games into 3 types according to the percentage of skill and chance needed to win. These are:
Skill and Gambling Games

Next we will explain you which are the easiest and the most difficult casino games to play and in which luck or skill will have a greater weight to win.
The easiest ones to win are those where the chance factor is higher and the most difficult ones where skill and deeper knowledge of the game must intervene.
This is not to say that it is better to play some games than others, but it is important that you know the difference between each type of game. After all, the aim of casino games and gambling is not only to win, but also to have fun while betting on them:
We call “games of skill” those games where luck or chance play a minor role.
In this type of bets, it is your knowledge, practice and skill in the casino game in particular what will most condition winning or losing, whether you bet for money or not.
In this field we find only one game: poker. The casino game par excellence. The most difficult of all because many factors come into play: mathematics, psychology, patience.
It is true that it has a factor of chance that lies in the cards you are dealt, but having or not having a good hand is far from being decisive to win at poker; this is why it is considered a game mainly of skill.
Skill and Gambling Games
Another type of casino games are those where luck and skill play an almost equally important role.
We could say that in most of them 50% of your chances of winning depend on your strategy and the other 50% depend on chance.
This means that they are not as difficult games as poker, nor as easy as those that are purely chance where no knowledge or skill is required.
To win in this type of games of chance the most advisable thing to do is to lean on mathematics and statistics to increase the possibilities of winning and minimize the advantage that the bank has over us by optimizing the bets, mathematically speaking.
In this type of casino games, the game prevails over the player ultimately, but it is still possible to improve your odds and minimize the house advantage by sticking to the mathematically optimized betting systems or strategies of each of the games.
What kind of games have a chance and skill component? Here are the main ones:
Roulette
In roulette, the luck factor is in the number at which it lands on the ball. It’s a very important factor but so is the betting strategy you choose, since you can choose a 1:1 bet (50% chance of winning), a 1/3 bet, a full bet (choosing a single number) or a half-full bet; but you can also choose a combination of several of these bets, so the game can be complicated as much as you want.
Sports betting
Sports betting has a high luck factor, since sports involve many internal and external factors that cannot be controlled; but also the knowledge you have about the sport, the follow-up you have done and the possible “snitches” they may give you.
BlackJack
In 21 Black Jack the skill lies in knowing how to use the well-known basic strategy table and learning how to count the cards without the house noticing (if you are playing in a physical casino). This doesn’t mean it’s illegal, but it’s frowned upon.
This is a game with an important part of chance, since you have little margin for the handling of the cards, but in it is also important that you know how to apply the mathematics.
Baccarat
Baccarat or baccarat is a game popularized since the first novel by agent 007.
In this card game, the aim is to add a value as close to 9 as possible and higher than the value of the dealer (as in 21 Black Jack).
In this game chance is much greater than skill, since the only decision you have to make is whether the point or the banker will win, or whether they will draw.
At dice you bet against the bank and the skill level is between Roulette and Baccarat, games that are quite similar. The aim of this dice game is to get a 7 or an 11.
In this case the complexity lies in choosing the type of bet you are going to make, since, leaving that aside, this game is about chance since each new roll of the dice is random, not cumulative as in black jack, where it is possible to count the cards.
Games of Chance
In games of chance the skill required is minimal, if not nil.
In them, luck, “fate”, or that, simply chance is what determines whether or not you are a winner. In these games the fun is the main factor, and they are ideal when you don’t want too much and the purpose is basically playful.
The reason why they are purely chance games, also known as fixed-odds games, is that regardless of what the player does, the type of move he or she makes will not influence the result. The only thing you can handle or control is the strategy of how you manage your money on your bets.
The games in this section are not going to be explained because their methodology is simple and known by all, they are mainly the following:
- Slot machines.
- Casino War (the highest card between yours and the croupier’s).
- Bingo.
- Keno.
- Lottery.
These games are the easiest to play, and their purpose is more for social entertainment.
